Properties are buildings which you buy and you earn passive income from them. Meaning that they will give you cash hourly.
What are rackets in mafia wars?
Rackets is extremely similar to the businesses in Moscow and Cuba. It is time sensitive and the collection of money will be dependable on amount of upgrades you do. If collection of racket is not done when time is up, and after a grace period (i am not sure how long), zynga will confiscate the payout and the influence point.
Example, you did a number racket at 12 noon. Number racket gives you $5200 in 8 hours time. If you log in and collect your money at 8pm, you can restart the collection again immediately and look forward to your next payout in 8 hours time which is 4am the next day.
However, if you never log in and collect at 8pm, and instead you collect the money at 11pm. Your next payout time will be 8hours from 11pm which is 7am. In between, you lose 3 hours, which is “logically” (3/8 x $5200 = $1950)
If you claim a racket, you will gain back your influence point which you use on the racket itself. Example, you spend 5 influence point for Three-Card Monte, when you finish and collect the money, and you get back 5 influence points too!
If you missed the collection timing, good luck and good bye to everything you spend on the racket itself.
Racket Influence Stats Point
For the new players, you will notice that you have an additional influence stats, unlike the older players without that stats.
Influence are points for you “buy” the rackets. The more influence you have, the better rackets you can purchase.
Seems like you can overshot your influence! see image above. how did i get 16/15 influence? I had a few rackets that are finishing. To be exact 2 rackets which both cost me 5 influence points. and i have 6 points at that moment. After completing, the 10 points were added back and that explains this 16 points.
Pls note that the maximum influence is at 120% of your base influence points. If your point is 15, the highest you can go is 18 points.
Rackets Slot
At the moment, its seems to me that i am only able to purchase 10 racket slots, but other sources state that they are able to buy much more. I keep you all updated.
Racket Shake Down Mastery System
Well, yes, they have a mastery level system, the advance rackets will only be opened up only after if you mastered the earlier tiers rackets. To complete a racket mastery, you have to do the racket for a certain number of times. Interesting!
However, only when you collect the racket, then you will gain the mastery on them, if you allowed it to go bust, say good bye to your money, your racket mastery and your influence points!

Conclusion of rackets
Rackets, to me, seems like a dumb system. Zynga says it will allow the old players to cash in their old properties to buy rackets. Worth it? Not to me.
I am currently earning hundred of millions per hour without doing anything and is aiming for the 999 trillion gold achievement.
With rackets i have to log in every few hours to collect the money. And the money received from the rackets seems pathetic. So, why should i change?
Although the racket shake down mastery system is fresh, it just a waste of time to remaster something in the new york tier again.
And we already suffer the penalty of having to allocate 2 stats point for an increase in 1 point of stamina. FYI : New players now need to allocate 1 stats point for an increase in 1 point of stamina.
This mafia wars new york rackets system seems pretty unbalanced. Luckily i am one of the pioneer batches
